Use in aquarium keeping.
Continuum recommends that you filter tap makeup water by reverse osmosis, distillation or deionization along with carbon pre-filtration to prevent adding phosphates and silicates to your aquarium. Continuum recommends a phosphate level of less than .02 mg/l (ppm). If you have high phosphate or silicate levels, you can lower them rapidly by using Continuum Captiv•Phos W or Captiv•Phos Fe or liquid Phos•Correx prior to or while using this product. The use of nerite snails, turbo snails, emerald crabs and other grazers is also recommended. Although not required, it would be advantageous to first use Continuum Redox Plus to lower the organic load of the aquarium and to raise the ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) and then wait 2 hours before using this product for the first time. Continuum also recommends that you consider using Reef Micro•Fuel, and Bacter Clean•M to accelerate the growth and increase the effectiveness of the bacteria in the system during use. Clean Equation•M can be used simultaneously and synergistically with BacterClean•M, BacterGen•M or BacterGen•MD. If using simultaneously, add bacteria several hours after the use of Clean Equation•M (this product) or several hours before its use.
Directions and protocol.
Shake well immediately prior to use. This product is meant to be used only on aquariums with a stable biological filter in which ammonia and nitrite are immeasurable, and in which there is enough water circulation to keep dissolved oxygen saturated. Remove activated carbon and clean or replace mechanical filtration media just prior to first use. For best results, a fine filter floss is recommended. Use following amounts per 50 gallons (190 L) capacity.
• Day 1: add 2½ ml (½ capful)
• Day 2: add 5ml (1 capful)
• Day 3: add 7½ ml (1½ capfuls)
• Day 4: add 10 ml (2 capfuls)
• Day 5: add 12½ ml (2½ capfuls)
• Day 6: add 15 ml (3 capfuls)
For maintenance, add 7.5 ml (1½ capfuls) every other day or as needed. Activated carbon may be re-installed in the filters once treatment with this product has been concluded.
Other considerations.
Continue protein skimming while using. This product is slow acting and will take multiple applications to achieve a clean aquarium. Daily replacement of filter floss, emptying of protein skimmer cup and regular vacuuming of all debris and undesirable materials from the live rocks and decorations is required. After the first week of use, unwanted stains and substances should begin to loosen and come off the rocks easily. Daily use may be continued as long as needed.
Note: Safe for reef systems with live soft and stony corals, most macro-algae and marine fish, however, all animals are individuals. Closely observe inhabitants while using, and if any negative reactions occur, slow or discontinue use.
Caution: Not an algaecide. Do not use with an algaecide. Keep out of reach of children. Not for human consumption. If in eyes flush with water, if irritation continues, seek medical attention. If ingested call a poison control center.
